Zagat Survey set

Zagat survey set contains of 4 metrocards promoting fancy expensive restaurants across the city. Matching leaflet has been issued at the same time.

Cards feature Balthazar in SoHo, Baboo in Greenwich Village, River Cafe in Brooklyn, Gramercy Tavern in Gramercy Park.

This card as well as 2 different matching leaflets promoted Lincoln Center Festival and Mostly Mozart Festival. There were matching brochure and 2 leaflets one for Lincoln Center Festival and another for Mostly Mozart festival.

After September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in US and in New York particular tourism suffered very badly. To promote it New York Visitor Center and citysearch.com sponsored new metrocard with patriotic colours and slogan. After citysearch.com stopped selling metrocards this card was re-issued without mentioning citysearch.com. There were also matching brochure and booklet and leaflet published at the time.

US Open Tennis Tournament 2001 set contains of 4 metrocards. All cards were sold separately and all were sponsored by American Express.

There are Martina Hingis, Todd Martin, Yannick Noah and Tracy Austin on those cards.

This metrocard has advertised AIDA musical on Broadway and was sponsored by American Express.

Mets National League Champs set contains of 2 metrocards and was sponsored by MasterCard. NY Mets won NL Championship in 2000. Matching leaflet has been issued at the time.

Both metrocards have printed at the bottom disclaimer: Not valid for purchases other than MetroCard.

Paint the Town Red

Paint the Town Red metrocard was sponsored by New York visitor center and citysearch.com. Metrocard was issued at the time when newly refurbished office of NYC Visitor Center on 7th Avenue has been open. It supposed to give tourist with information where to go and what to do around the city.

There were published matching brochure and folded book of special offers.

This set included 6 very colourful metrocards sponsored by MasterCard. Unfortunately, because of litigation instigated by MLB for the payment to use their logos on those metrocards set has been cancelled and all cards supposed be destroyed. Set was promoted by huge posters posted inside subway cars and on stations. Not all cards were destroyed however, some survived and once in while they are hitting the market.

Another Internet era victim: Ricochet.com sponsored this metrocard. Company was making high speed mobile access which was not ready yet at the time.

This set of 4 metrocards was sponsored by Modell’s sporting goods chain. Set has matching leaflet published at the same time. Cards featuring stars of local football teams: Jets and Giants: Kevin Mawae, Wayne Chrebet, Michael Strahan, Jason Sehorn.

Metrocards were unveiled at Grand Central Station and Players were at hands at the event. There are known metrocards with autographs.
